“Untold African American Stories” Presentation
April 16, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
The Canal Corridor Association will host an Illinois Humanities Road Scholars Speakers Bureau presentation entitled “Untold African American Stories” by Mary Frances.
Ms. Frances will give a brief story about each one of the ten large images of African Americans in her presentation and encourage audience engagement about how they feel and think about the images. This event is free and open to the public.
Mary Frances has been a college teacher for 20 years and has given lectures and presentations as well as led discussions for live and online students. She’s done public speaking about her environmental and historical research along with talks to her city council and community organizations about issues that matter to her in her community of Springfield, Illinois. Being a Road Scholar allows her to share her passion for African American history, research, and public speaking with audiences outside her community.
This event is being produced by Canal Corridor Association in partnership with Illinois Humanities. The Illinois Humanities Road Scholars Speakers Bureau invites Illinois authors, artists, and educators to share their expertise and enthusiasm with people throughout the state, enabling local nonprofit organizations to present free-admission cultural programs to their communities.
