Mazon Creek Fossil Tour Family Day

Take advantage of this unique opportunity to learn about the environment, ecosystems, and climate of Northern Illinois as it was 300 million years ago by collecting fossil specimens at the Mazon Fossil Beds (on private property).

The adventure includes picking fossils at the original site of the discoveries along the Mazon Creek as it was in the mid-1800s such as ferns and horsetails. Everyone will have specimens to take home to remember the day.  Sign up soon, as these events sell out.

New and returning families with children will enjoy this day which includes an overview talk about the fossils, a hay ride to the river, fossil picking with a guide, a cookout lunch, show-and-tell fossil time, and an optional swim in the pool.  A certificate of participation will be included.
